Fábrica de Cerâmica Viúva Lamego: Lisbon's Tile Heritage

The historic ceramics factory that helped define Portugal's beloved azulejo tradition.

Founded in 1849, the Fábrica de Cerâmica Viúva Lamego became one of Portugal's most important producers of the distinctive azulejo tiles that adorn buildings across the country. Located in Lisbon's Intendente neighborhood, the factory produced countless decorative pieces that can still be seen on facades throughout Portugal. Though production has ceased, the site represents an important chapter in Portuguese industrial and artistic heritage. Efforts are underway to preserve and repurpose this significant piece of Lisbon's cultural landscape.
