Antiga Fábrica Robinson

Portalegre, Portugal

The Robinson Cork Factory (Fábrica Robinson) was founded in 1848 by Robert Robinson, an English industrialist who established one of the largest cork processing plants in Portugal. At its peak, the factory employed over 1,000 workers and produced cork products exported worldwide. The complex spans several hectares along the Sado River in Setúbal. The factory ceased operations in the 1980s and has since remained abandoned, though efforts to convert it into a cultural center have been discussed. The buildings feature distinctive Victorian-era industrial architecture with iron frameworks and large warehouse spaces.
